I'm at work today so it's already not going to be a peaceful day. I'll be joining the David Lynch meditation later and I'll probably check out Clark's movie
Met with a group of ladies who are quilting, knitting and crocheting blankets as part of MLK month of service. Baltimore has a day of service for MLK, and I always participated as a volunteer on that day. One year over 50 people came to my school and painted classrooms. The kids were so excited when they returned for their classrooms were no longer institutional green. Every classroom was a different vibrant color, which would not have been chosen by the powers that be. Haven’t watched Clark’s movie in a while, so will probably watch tonight.
🗣️📕 ✍🏽 A list of #MLK speeches and sermons in which he courageously speaks truth; shares about Kingian nonviolence; and expounds on issues of injustice and what our righteous, rigorous response should be. Relevant. Revelatory. Revolutionary. #MLKDay #MLK96 #MissionPossibleMLK
“It's more difficult today because we are struggling now for genuine equality. And it's much easier to integrate a lunch counter than it is to guarantee a livable income and a good solid job.” From ‘The Other America.”
2. “Nonviolence is not sterile passivity, but a powerful moral force which makes for social transformation.” #NobelPeacePrize Acceptance Speech
3. “This problem of spiritual and moral lag, which constitutes modern man's chief dilemma, expresses itself in three larger problems which grow out of man's ethical infantilism.” From #MLK’s Nobel Peace Prize Lecture, ‘The Quest for Peace and Justice’
5. #MLK in 1967, but he could be talking about today: “And so the collision course is set. The people cry for freedom and the congress attempts to legislate repression.” From ‘The Three Evils of Society.’
6. ‘Beyond Vietnam: A Time to Break Silence.’ Please spend some time with it. “If America's soul becomes totally poisoned, part of the autopsy must read: Vietnam. It can never be saved so long as it destroys the deepest hopes of men the world over.”
Prayer for the United States of America – June 8, 1783 and April 30, 1789
"Almighty God; We make our earnest prayer that Thou wilt keep the United States in Thy holy protection, that Thou wilt incline the hearts of the citizens to cultivate a spirit of subordination and obedience to government; and entertain a brotherly affection and love for one another and for their fellow citizens of the United States at large. And finally, that Thou wilt most graciously be pleased to dispose us all to do justice, to love mercy, and to demean our selves with that charity, humility, and pacific temper of mind which were the characteristics of the Divine Author of our blessed religion, and without a humble imitation of whose example in these things we can never hope to be a happy nation. Grant our supplication we beseech Thee, through Jesus Christ, Our Lord. Amen." – George Washington, Prayer for the United States, adapted from Washington’s Circular Letter to the States, June 8, 1783; Washington’s Prayer for the United States of America was reportedly prayed following his inauguration on April 30, 1789, and appears on a plaque in St. Paul’s chapel in New York City as well as at Pohick Church, Fairfax County, Virginia, where Washington was a vestryman from 1762 to 1784; Source: The New York World Almanac of 1930, p.
Thanks for the recommendations. My day so far: Qi Gong practice for the first time in a while. Mending (the actual sewing kind), correspondence, homemade lemon-ginger-turmeric tea.
Thanks Kyle I had oatmeal as well this morning. Must be in the air.😉 I will be listening to & playing lots of music today. Definitely will check out Clark’s movie. TCM is devoted to films celebrating Dr King today also. I will be meditating on Dr King’s work, and I will enjoy today’s sunshine. ☀️ Peace & blessings on everyone’s head 🫶🏻
